1 2 N° 27 FEBBRAIO 2022 An immersion in the magic of prints: celebrating the foulard Un’immersione nella magia delle stampe: la celebrazione del foulard

1 3 FASHION BRANDS An iconic accessory worn by divas in the Fifties and Sixties, the foulard is the star of the entire Versace S/S 2022 collection. An accessory that has always been in the Maison’s DNA, with its iconic decorated prints: the upcoming season is a veritable celebration of the historic La Greca motif, alongside new designs such as Royal Rebellion, Banquet Aftermath, and Acid Bouquet. «The foulard is a fundamental component of the Versace heritage and character - explains Donatella Versace - It represents a canvas for our iconic prints and is worn in a variety of ways, from knotted tops to bandanas and even as a bag accessory. It has characterised our collections since the beginning, but for this season it is no longer just an accessory». For the summer, the La Medusa line of bags is enhanced with new models and colours, including the maxi-shopper and the bucket bag with drawstring, embellished with chain decorations. There is also a new palette for the La Greca Signature line. Foulards are knotted to the handles and draped over the bags, creating a connection between the accessory lines and the collection. A way to add a Versace touch to every look.

1 4 N° 27 FEBBRAIO 2022 Timeless magic under the Los Angeles sky Una magia senza tempo, sotto il cielo di Los Angeles www.gucci.com

1 5 FASHION BRANDS “Mom always told me: Los Angeles shines with a timeless magic, it touches the gods and becomes a mythology of the possible”. So where, if not in the City of Angels, Alessandro Di Michele could have held his Love Parade. With Hollywood Boulevard as the red carpet, Gucci’s artistic director brought the myth to life in a colossal event celebrating the Maison’s 100th anniversary and paying homage to the “dream factory” that is cinema. And for one evening, truly, everything seemed possible. Among the many famous faces who walked on the Walk of Fame were Jared Leto, Miranda July and Macaulay Culkin, but also, in their outfits, the old Hollywood of Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth and Rock Hudson. To complete the look, clogs, moccasins, cowboy boots and sandals with vertiginous platforms. Inevitable bags. Metallic clutches, hobo bags to be carried by hand or over the shoulder, along with models that preserve the myth of the women whose names they bear: the Jackie, also seen in black and studded with colored flowers, and the recent Gucci Diana with bamboo handles.

The 4.0 Industry in Italy: over €4.5 billion in 2021. The market grows despite the pandemic According to the research conducted by the 4.0 Industry Transition Observatory of the Politecnico di Milano School of Management, if the Italian 4.0 Industry market reached a value of € 4.1 billion (+8%) in 2020, its growth did not stop in 2021, exceeding € 4.5 billion. The push comes from Cloud Manufacturing (+25-30%), mainly used to monitor industrial plants remotely, Advanced Automation (+15-20%) i.e., automated production systems such as collaborative robots, and Advanced HMI (+12-18%), such as wearables and human-machine interfaces to capture data in visual, voice, and tactile formats.«The year 2020 has pushed companies to rethink the way that operations are managed - comments Giovanni Miragliotta, Director of the 4.0 Industry Transition Observatory - The transformation of business models towards digitalisation has changed the approach with which value is transmitted to the customer: working remotely, flexibility and service orientation are becoming the key elements in the management of the digital enterprise». The impact of innovation in the world of Fashion is not only based in terms of the latest technologies and production facilities, but also in the way a collection is designed and promoted, and on the customer’s shopping experience. 1 8 N° 27 FEBBRAIO 2022 The next big challenge for Fashion between technology and socialmedia: the Metaverse. The Fashion industry is also experimenting with a new digital dimension in the presentation of new collections. Morgan Stanley, the famous American credit and consultancy institute, has estimated that for the Fashion and Luxury sectors, revenues from virtual reality could amount to around forty-four billion euros by 2030. But what is the Metaverse? A type of new virtual world as a direct evolution of the Internet, an immersive 3D experience where users can live new experiences, events, meetings, and try out products, thanks to a series of special technological tools. Among the first brands to seize the opportunity offered by the Metaverse is Balenciaga, with the presentation of its FW21 collection transformed into the videogame Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow, which took the idea of digitising events to another level of innovation. For the looks and the campaign launching the 2022 collection, the brand is back in the news. In Andrea Artemisio’s shots, the new collection is worn by models with cybernetic covers and robotic masks created by artist Hiroto Ikeuchi, who was inspired by mecha, huge robots typical of traditional Japanese manga and anime. The star of the campaign is a veritable Skeleton that looks like something straight out of the movie Aliens, which will be on display at the Balenciaga Tokyo flagship in Aoyama.

Moschino: bisogna lavorare, lavorare, lavorare. Leather&Luxury interviewed Rossella Jardini, the iconic designer formerly with Bottega Veneta, then as the artistic director of the Moschino brand for thirty years until 2013. She then went on to collaborate on various prestigious projects, most recently in 2021 with the “Cuoio di Toscana” association, together with designers Nick Cerioni and Marvely, for the launch of the special JCM capsule collection. Ms. Jardini, how did this collaboration come about? «I have always been involved working in fashion accessories, I have a lengthy experience with bags and shoes, first with Bottega Veneta and then with Moschino. Cuoio di Toscana commissioned me to design two bags: one with a big red heart on a black background and white hearts at the corners, a sandal with gem motifs that we find on the gem bag, and a loafer. The very interesting theme was to use vegetable-tanned leather that was tanned with tannin as a raw material to promote a truly eco-sustainable product. Cuoio di Toscana expressed their satisfaction, so I hope to continue to collaborate with them». What differences are there between creating a collection in the pre-internet era and now? «Mr Moschino forbade us to consult fashion magazines so that our creative ideas would not be influenced. First, we chose the colours, then the fabrics according to the season, we created a mood board to give the staff directions. Then we would match the fabrics to the designs and start rehearsing for the shows. Now, with the advent of social media, it’s hard to find something on the market that expresses personality, that stands out from the rest. Young people are bombarded by capsule and continuous collections, the production rhythms are infernal, so it is difficult to find a way to differentiate oneself». Do you have a message for the young designers of tomorrow? «As Mr Moschino used to say: you have to work, work, work. Young people today all dress the same. In my day, people were much more daring without ever being vulgar. Elegance is the value that must come before all others».

Valerio Brunetti Susanna Rinaldi Investire per il mercato di domani Investing for tomorrow’smarket Il Marchio D’Oro srl How did you, as entrepreneurs, cope with the pandemic period? «During the pre-pandemic years we strategically invested in technology. This gave us good results both at the time and, above all, during the pandemic, a period where excellence and special features were and are sought after even more. Thanks to these major investments, we can combine many different types of special processes, even on the same product. This enabled us to remain closed only during the period imposed by the authorities. We then resumed full operations, but obviously experienced a drop in turnover in 2020, which was quickly recovered in the new year». What were the new market challenges during the restart? «A moment of crisis, if well exploited, can turn into a moment of great growth. We have done a lot of thinking and tried to see what new goals to pursue. This has been our commitment. We have tried to perceive and intercept what the market would need once everything would return to “normal”. We have researched new materials and high-performance machinery that could be used to make the best products in line with the new market trends, and with which we would have been able to comply with the increasingly stringent production deadlines which, just for a moment, we had hoped would not return to the schizophrenic levels of the pre-covid era but turned out to be even more pressing than then. We are now more than used to managing sudden peaks in workload, which clearly require extreme flexibility and the ability to organise and reorganise quickly, resulting in a great qualitative response that we pursue with determination and professionalism. Our commitment, determination, and professionalism, together with all our staff, spur us on to continue investing in order to have the most suitable means to face the challenges that will come from tomorrow’s market».

2 4 N° 27 FEBBRAIO 2022 The 121st edition of MIPEL will be held in attendance and for the occasion it will double its space, occupying part of Halls 1 and 3, once again together with MICAM. An area of 4,000 m2 will be dedicated to about 100 national and international exhibitors who will present their FW 2022/23 collections to qualified buyers, also thanks to the support of the ICE Agency and MAECI, whose incoming project ensures the presence of a selection of international buyers. The world of art and avant-garde movements are the elements that have inspired MIPEL for the creativity and fittings of the 121st edition. The event has a program manifesto that summarises the values for the leather goods sector in six terms: brand identity, creativity, sustainability, artisanship, autonomy, and finally digitalisation. Among the novelties is the very important collaboration with MIRTA, the marketplace that supports luxury artisans on international markets, to which MIPEL will dedicate an exhibition area in Hall 3 to propose a selection of artisans present on the platform. MIRTA will also be involved in the organisation of the entertainment events that will enliven the three-day event and that will also be available in streaming in the MIPEL section that will be created within MIRTA Wholesale, the new B2B platform created to connect artisan companies with independent and international boutiques and that will become MIPEL’s digital reference tool, offering each exhibitor visibility through a dedicated page. The long-awaited return of SCENARIO, the leading sector where modern and up-to-date collections will be on show. Finally, from February 22nd to 24th, LINEAPELLE will also host the second edition of MIPEL Lab, an exhibition dedicated to leather goods sourcing with the aim of bringing together brands from all over the world with the best Italian manufacturers. From February 20th to 22nd, the most important international event dedicated to leather goods and fashion accessories returns to Fiera Milano-Rho L’edizione 121 di Mipel si terrà in presenza e per l’occasione raddoppia gli spazi, occupando parte dei padiglioni 1 e 3, ancora una volta insieme a MICAM.
