The Leather & Luxury network is born

Leather & Luxury, a magazine that specialises in the Made in Italy leather goods and footwear industries, has set a new objective for itself: creating direct contacts between companies in the leather industry and potential fashion brands through a network of firms.

  • Why was Leather & Luxury created?

Leather & Luxury was created in 2013 to give a voice to those companies in the world of leather goods that, albeit collaborators with well-known Luxury brands, did not receive sufficient visibility. A world made up of thousands of SMEs, manual expertise, and industrial districts that were not reflected in the Made in Italy narrative, despite being one of the pillars of the fashion system.

  • Isn't it almost a Catch-22 that these types of companies remained in the shadows?

Yes, despite the fact that SMEs have a massive impact on the fashion system, on the national GDP, and on how Made in Italy is perceived.

Perhaps this is why, when the Leather & Luxury magazine came to be, the response and interest exceeded our expectations: leather goods manufacturers, tanneries, accessory makers, embroidery companies, and many other businesses, even those with decades of history behind them, wanted and needed to increase their visibility by showing their work.

At a time when global competition was becoming fierce, the need to communicate had become an urgent necessity, and we are delighted to have helped so many Italian companies get in touch with other established and emerging Luxury brands.

This network is the natural evolution of this course.

  • How did the idea for the Network come about? What sparked the need?

A few years ago, we started receiving requests from designers and brands looking to collaborate with reliable and expert Italian manufacturers.

The gradual increase in demand led us to the idea of creating an innovative digital platform divided into categories, to filter the brands' requests and present them directly to suppliers.

We felt the need to enhance this network of companies by putting its protagonists in direct contact with brands, designers, style offices, and professionals: 2020 made us realise the urgency and necessity of such an evolution.

  • What is the function of the Leather & Luxury network?

The online platform will support those who need production and supply of accessories, leather, fabrics, embroidery, digital prints, and Made in Italy workmanship to contact the magazine's over 200 partner companies directly.

It is a safe, quick, and economical way to receive production estimates or samples from expert suppliers, who will then have the freedom to assess any collaboration according to their own standards.
