How Alessandro Michele Changed the Perception of Studs

When it comes to studs, the first thing that comes to mind is definitely a gritty or sexy imagery, with very punk or extremely feminine pieces. Alessandro Michele reinterpreted them in a new, very romantic version, choosing them, large and rounded, to characterize his first bag designed for Valentino, the Nellcôte.

We talked about it with Elisa Taddei, Style Office Manager of Italiana Accessori, a Venetian company specialized in workmanship with a focus on studs.

“These are classic half pearls, one of the most used shapes. What makes them unusual and therefore completely different is their size: usually they are small, mostly used for footwear, while here they are very large”.

This definitely changes the perception of this accessory, showing an unusual, romantic side, accentuated by the choice of the palladium finish.

But how is the application done?

“There are no machines for studs of this size, so it is a manual process, done either with a press or by manually inserting the serrated “legs” that run along the perimeter of the stud into the leather, sometimes pre-perforated, and then closing them on the other side”.
