An interview with Stefano Caponi, owner of Conceria Superior of Santa Croce sull’Arno (PI) and Director of the Tanners Association of Santa Croce.
How important is research and development to your company, and what is the most relevant news related to the tannery sector from this perspective?
SC: Research and development are extremely important aspects to our tannery, as I believe they are for many manufacturers in this delicate economic climate. Diversity is necessary now more than ever, and investments in innovation should not become less important.
What has been the greatest progress made in environmental protection, citing your experience as an entrepreneur?
SC: Conceria Superior has just obtained the certification of compliance to the UNIC Code of Conduct and Social Responsibility and is working towards becoming progressively more eco-friendly. We have made many improvements in this respect and will continue in the future. For example, we have consulted a renewable electrical energy source supplier to power all of our plants. Moreover, we are also working on improving our energy saving and the conscious use of many other natural resources.
As an industry expert and owner of a company, what do you think of the current tanning sector?
SC: The tanning industry is experiencing a difficult period and it is no secret that our industry has changed considerably over the last few years. The repercussions that the global crisis has had, and continues to have, on our industry must encourage us to do our best and give our maximum attention to current and potential clients.
