Three types of knots in winter bags

Forget the knot as a simple closure or an improvised decoration. In winter collections, knots are making space for themselves as sophisticated details, the result of refined artisanal techniques. We selected three standout bag designs and spoke with Sacha Salucci of Toscana Mignon to understand how these knots are crafted.
SQUARE KNOT
In its Peekaboo model, Fendi reinterprets the weave with a motif resembling a square knot — a technique designed to join two elements by interlacing them, without "tying" them in the traditional sense. In this case, the piece is made with a flat mignon — a folded and center-stitched leather strip about 7–8 millimeters wide — that is hand-braided and knotted.
THREADED KNOT
Jacquemus’ Calino bag features uniform knots distributed decoratively across the entire surface. Here too, flat mignons in lamb leather, about 10–12 millimeters wide, are used. The technique is threading: the bag panels are machine-punched, and the mignon is then manually inserted into the cuts to form the knots, creating a clean, geometric effect.
STRAP KNOT
Acne Studios reinterprets the traditional knots of Japanese obi belts in its Musubi (meaning “knot”) model. The sides of the bag feature knots made from two double leather straps, internally reinforced with tear-resistant canvas and polished on the edges to conceal the raw cut. The strap is then tied to the body of the bag, forming an architectural and elegant detail.
