The footwear world is becoming increasingly green

That the world of fashion is one of the most environmentally impactful industries is no secret: this sector is responsible for about 8% of global emissions. Most of these, however, come from the production process and the end of product life, with materials that weigh heavily both for their composition and longevity, meaning they remain in landfills for many years.

Footwear is no exception, with leather, sustainable by definition, combined with materials that take years to decompose. From this awareness comes LUMINE by Industrie Chimiche Forestali, a biodegradable fabric and GRS-certified, made from raw materials derived from food and natural latex, and which disintegrates in 180 days.

 

LUMINE uses completely natural processes for rigidity and presents itself as a concrete alternative for internal components of footwear and leather goods.

 

 

« Although we have not yet reached the rigidity levels that normal cotton can provide, we have managed to achieve excellent results combined with total biodegradability for the softer product, while for the more rigid variants we use synthetic latex biodegradable » says Dario Ferrario, Textile Business Unit Director.

 

 

An innovation that has already been met with enthusiasm by luxury giants, who have adopted it for certain premium lines and collections, capable of absorbing a higher raw material cost.
