Lapi Group Celebrates 75 Years of History and the 60th Anniversary of Lapi Gelatine

Seventy-five years for Lapi Group and Figli di Guido Lapi, the company from which the Group originated, and sixty years for Lapi Gelatine. These milestones were celebrated on 17 July in Santa Croce sull'Arno during Lapi Ensemble, an event that brought together employees, shareholders, partners and local institutions.

 

The origins of the Group date back to 1951, when Francesco, Mario and Dino Lapi founded Figli di Guido Lapi, expanding the chemical trading business established by their father in the 1930s. Over the years, the company has accompanied the evolution of the leather district, contributing to the introduction of new processes and technologies.

 

Among the most significant moments in its history was the experimentation with mimosa extract for vegetable tanning, promoted by Francesco Lapi in the early 1960s. In 1966, after the flood that struck the Tuscan Leather District, the availability of tannins stored in the company's warehouses helped numerous tanneries resume production.

Today, Lapi Group operates in the fields of industrial chemicals, fashion, and the production of gelatin and collagen for food, pharmaceutical and nutraceutical applications. In 2025, the Group recorded consolidated revenues of €152 million and employs around 350 people.

 

The celebration began at the Teatro Verdi in Santa Croce sull'Arno with speeches by Roberto Lapi, former President of the Group, Francesco Lapi, President of Lapi Group, Tommaso Lapi, Vice President, Fabio Da Lozzo, General Manager of Lapi Gelatine and Juncà Gelatines, and Stefano Pinori, General Manager of Figli di Guido Lapi. The event was also attended by Eugenio Giani, President of the Tuscany Region, Antonio Mazzeo, Vice President of the Regional Council, and the mayors of Santa Croce sull'Arno, Castelfranco di Sotto and San Miniato.

 

The celebrations continued at Villa Lapi, the Group's historic headquarters, with guided tours, an aperitif and dinner in the park, accompanied by a musical collaboration with the Empoli Jazz Association.
